Awake is an amazing cd..the first song Hero really speaks to me because it has amazing lyrics to it. I love the way that skillet expresses their worship to God its powerful and effective..if you like rock worship then skillet is a perfect buy for you...I highly recommend comatose as well. God bless!

An Excellent Follow Up to "Comatose" December 18, 2009 Anne 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The past two years have brought the best of Christian metal, and "Awake" and "Comatose" are, in addition to being among the best releases, also Skillet's crown jewels. In a sense, "Awake" is a sequel to "Comatose", as is suggested by the titles. The theme of being broken by sin and remade by God is carried over into "Awake".
Yet, "Awake" also expands the band's musical palette, even more so than "Comatose". The style of the fourteen tracks ranges from romantic rock ballad, to powerful symphonic melodies, to towering torrents of pure metal. Yet, despite these diverse sounds, each track carries a similar theme of leaving the past behind and moving forward with renewed hope and determination.
"Monster" ranks among the best tracks, with searing electric guitar and John Copper's emotional vocals. "Hero" and "Awake and Alive" are deadlocked for rank, as both offer a soaring orchestral backing and moving male/female duet vocals. "It's Not Me It's You" brims with power in both lyric and music. "Believe", "Should've When You Could Have", and "Lucy" are among the best rock love ballads.
"Never Surrender", as well as "Dead Inside" and "Would It Matter", are among the most powerful of all the tracks, with their soul-reaching arrangements and lyrics.
I cannot say enough about each of the tracks on "Awake". This album, especially the Deluxe version, is the absolute best of metal, both secular and Christian versions alike. Most importantly, "Awake" offers a universal message of hope in a world of dark, depressing circumstances and emotions. More than worth every penny!
